POLINA KREMASTA
A workshop for children: The world and us
1st Week – 1,5 hours/day
11:00 - 12:30 (D. Vikelas Sport Centre)
We will work together for five days for an hour and a half each day and we will study the space between us, the time around us and the movement’s magical journey.
We will go back to basics and rediscover our dance through games, imagination and personal ways of moving. We will explore the space around us and fill it with our sounds and bodies. How many butterflies can fit in the palm of my hand? How many wings can grow on my back?
Why is it that when I reach out to my friend I feel a tingling in my stomach?
We will build relationships and partnerships through cooperation as well as our own uniqueness and personality.
At the end of the workshop we will place our materials on an improvised canvas and present them to the Syros’s community.
Necessary props: comfortable shoes and clothes and a bottle of water
The workshop is addressed to children 10-11 years old and it is based on the educational project “Skytali” (Relay).

Two words about Skytali (relay):
Skytali is an educational program based on movement and dance, open to dancers, educators, choreographers and primary school students. It is based on a continuous procedure of sharing information and tools and learning through acting. Its core practice consists in passing the relay and educating the other to take over, inspiring and reinforcing community and personal skills such as initiative taking, cooperating, connecting. The classes are movement experience lessons and not a typical dance technique course. They are based on two fundamental movement actions, running after and falling; two symbolically charged actions, really familiar to children, linked with the joy of playing but also with social behavior. Skytali is a project, a community, a live structure, a network, a new space, a home a boat, a door, a movement, a way of life.
