Akropoditi (meaning literally “on the tips of the toes”) is an experimental dance theatre company that was created in the island of Syros with the initiative of Angeliki Sigourou. From October 2005 onwards the company exists as a Non-Profit Organization, registered in Syros.

Angeliki Sigourou

Artistic Director of Akropoditi Dance Center

She was born in Athens, in 1973.
She studied the French language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, had postgraduate studies on Southeastern Mediterranean Linguistics at the Aegean University in Rhodes and was taught the Arabic language in Greece and Alexandria of Egypt. She also studied acting at the "ARCHI" Drama School in Athens, as well as Classical and Contemporary Dance in the School of Dance of Aliki Goussa. She has attended various theater and dance seminars in Greece and abroad.
In 2004, she founded the Akropoditi Dancetheatre, which functions as a non-profit company since 2005, registered in Syros. Since then she has directed and choreographed all of the performances of the Company. In January 2013, she founded Akropoditi Dance Centre in Ermoupolis, Syros.
Until now, she has published two poetic compilations (Aras, Electra Publications, 2008, Chioni-Chioni, Nefeli Publications, 2010,) and has participated in several Poetry Anthologies in Greece and abroad. Her poetic work was been presented in many Poetry Festivals abroad and her poems have been translated to English, French, German, Turkish and Arabic. She has translated and published literature and poetry works from French and Arabic.
She lives in Syros, where she has taken the artistic direction of Akropoditi Dance Centre. She is also working as a teacher of contemporary and classical dance, theatre and as a translator.

Ioanna Antonarou

Artistic Administrator of Akropoditi Dance Center

She was born in Athens in 1985.
She graduated from the Greek State School of Dance in 2012. She studies at the Department of Products and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean in Syros Island.
She has worked with companies such as: Oktana Dancetheatre, SQx Dance Company and Iraqi Bodies.
She is working as a teacher of contemporary and classical dance for children and adults in Syros Island and Athens. In the autumn of 2016 (September-December) she taught contemporary dance in schools around Canada.
In March 2017, in collaboration with Natasa Sarantopoulou, they presented their first choreographic work in Athens with the title "wowklolawok" ("γουοκλολαγουοκ").
In June 2017 she took part in the "Day Out of Time" action at the Athens & Epidaurus Festival.
She is a member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre from 2005.

Nabil el Barrage

He was born in Athens in 1982.

He was involved in sports and played football semi-professionally and professionally for 15 years. Since 2008 he has been occupied with dance and yoga.

He completed the whole training programme of Yogaworks in 2012-2013 and has been teaching yoga in Athens and Syros since then.

He has taken part in classes, seminars and workshops of classical ballet, contemporary dance, contact improvisation, butoh, capoeira. This year he has been attending classes of wing-chun kungfu.

He is a member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre since 2010.

Design & Advertising / Operational Assistant of Akropoditi Dance Center

He was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1987.
He is a graduate student of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean in Syros Island.
He has been attending contemporary and classical dance courses since 2010. Also, he has attended seminars of contemporary dance, improvisation, acrobatics, contact improvisation, butoh, jazz, yoga etc.
He is a member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre and Akropoditi Design Team since 2010 and has worked for the Akropoditi Dance Centre as a movement teacher, stage technician and designer. He has also collaborated and danced for resident artists of the Centre from around the world.
So far, he has participated in the following performances of the Dancetheatre: Medusa, Sebastian, Prayer - in 7 parts.
In Cyprus, he has danced for the choreographer Panayiotis Tofi (Visibility Festival, Nicosia) and has worked in an organizational and promotional level with the Open House Festival (Dancehouse Lemesos), the choreographer Lia Haraki and other Cypriot artists.

Mary Mavri

Financial Administrator of Akropoditi Dance Center

She was born in Hermoupolis, Syros in 1978.
She is a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).
She works as an office clerk at HEDNO S.A. (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A.) in Syros where she lives.
She has been attending contemporary and classical dance courses since 2004.
She has attended seminars of contemporary dance, musical jazz, contact improvisation, release and partnering, acrobatics, acroyoga, butoh etc.
She is a founding member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre.

Thalassini Nomikou

Thalassini was born in Athens, in 1989.
She has been involved with dancing from a very early age. She is a graduate of the Professional Higher Private Dance School of “Niki Kontaxaki” in 2011. She continued her training in New York City for one year (2012-2013) by enrolling in the “Intensive Professional Student Program” of Peridance Capezio Center and mastering the “Jose Limon” technique in Modern Dance.
She attends classes and workshops of classical ballet, contemporary and modern dance, improvisation, contact-partnering, yoga, Pilates, stretching, creative dance for children, dance for people with disabilities, dance therapy etc. in Greece and abroad.
She danced in several works of classical ballet repertory such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
She has been working with children since 2009. She has worked as an animator in creative childcare activities, as a child entertainer, and as a yoga teacher for children.
She is a member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre since 2013 and so far she has participated in the performance «Medusa».
Since 2013, she resides in Syros Island. She works as a dance teacher of classical and contemporary dance for children and adults at the Akropoditi Dance Centre.

 

Mandy Papandreou

Born in Athens in 1966.
She is graduate of the University of Athens, faculty Physical Education and a Certificated teacher of Music and Dance education (Carl Orff system- Moraitis School Athens).
She has worked in private nursery schools, cultural and sports clubs teaching children and adults music and dance, physical education, swimming and Greek traditional dances. Since 1996 she has been working in Primary and Secondary Education schools as a physical education teacher, while implementing cultural projects and projects on Creative Movement-Modern Dance and Greek Traditional Dance.
Since 2002 she lives in Syros where she works as a physical educator in public secondary schools. In addition, she also works
as a teacher of Creative Dance for children and Swimming in children and adults.
as a personal fitness trainer, using «Orthosomiki» (exercises which are aimed at ensuring the proper posture) methods.
She teaches «Orthosomiki» and Contemporary Dance for children at the Akropoditi Dance Center.
She has attended courses in flauto dolce (Blockfloete), Greek traditional percussion, classical dance, flamengo, Jazz and Contemporary dance. She has also attended seminars in Rhythmic, mimetic, theater movement and improvisation as well as seminars in different contemporary dance techniques and performance art (release, contact improvisation, partnering, acrobatics in dance, Creative dance, Butoh, Flying low and Passing through, Dance in water.
She is member of the Akropoditi Dancetheater since 2005.

Vivi Sklia

Design & Advertising / Operational Assistant of Akropoditi Dance Center

She was born in Athens in 1988.
She has been living in Syros since 2005 where she studied and graduated from the Department of Products and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean.
She has been attending contemporary and classical dance courses from 2006 and also seminars of contemporary and classical dance, release, modern dance techniques, partnering, flying low, improvisation, acrobatics, contact improvisation, butoh, choreography, theatre, repertoire etc.
She is a member of the Akropoditi Dancetheater since 2007 and works for Akropoditi Design Team since 2011. She has participated in the following performances of the Dancetheatre:

Antigoni Choundri

She was born in Athens in 1967. 
She studied fashion design at Lette Verein in Berlin.
She has attended photography courses in AKTO College and freehand drawing courses with Cleopatra Hatziyiosi.
Since 2003 she lives in Syros where she has founded the clothing design company “Ennoia sou”.
She has been attending dance courses since 1997.
She has attended seminars of dance therapy, contemporary dance, contact improvisation, acrobatics, improvisation, butoh etc.
She is member of the Akropoditi Dancetheatre since 2004 and works for Akropoditi Design Team since 2011.

Ariadni Psychogiopoulou

Artistic Administrator of Akropoditi Dance Center

She was born in Patras, in 1985. She studied psychology at the AUTH of Thessaloniki and got a master degree in legal and human rights in mental health in ILS College, in Poona, India. She graduated from the Greek State School of Dance in 2012. She is a member of the Greek Observatory for the rights in Mental Health as well as the Greek Network Supporting people who want to quit psychiatric drugs.
She has worked as a teacher of classical ballet and contemporary dance in Chalkidiki, as a facilitator in camps with disabled people, in camps for children (9 years) with a variety of roles and in a clinical guidance center for children. Also, she worked in homes occupying autistic children with creative activities.
She has attended seminars of contemporary dance, contact improvisation, physical theater, improvisation, dance therapy, butoh etc as well as a variety of seminars / conferences relative to education and psychology.
Since January 2013, she has been teaching contemporary dance and classical ballet to children and adults, at the Akropoditi Dance Center, where she has also undertaken the artistic administration of the Centre.
She is a member of Akropoditi Dancetheatre since 2012.
So far, she has participated in the following performances of the Dancetheatre: Prayer - In 7 parts, (Two) Moments of Waiting, Medusa, Sebastian.
She has worked as a performer with Iraqi Bodies, for the project "Rite of Exile".
